Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action), participated in discussions on enhancing environmental awareness among youth as part of COP29.
Axar.az reports that the discussions, titled “Investing in Education for Climate Resilience: Early Development and Environmental Awareness,” were jointly organized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and IDEA.
During her speech, Leyla Aliyeva emphasized the crucial role of youth in addressing environmental issues and combating climate change globally. She highlighted the importance of expanding opportunities for knowledge and experience exchange through educational and awareness programs and international platforms.
Aliyeva also discussed IDEA's projects and initiatives, noting the organization’s focus on youth engagement in climate change and responsible attitudes toward nature. She detailed activities such as eco-camps, awareness campaigns, and documentaries, sharing their outcomes with participants.
She pointed out that IDEA has been a member of IUCN since 2014 and elaborated on the joint efforts undertaken during the decade-long partnership. Aliyeva stressed the significance of international solidarity and cooperation in fostering a sustainable future and raising an informed younger generation.
The event also featured contributions from Azerbaijan’s Minister of Education, Emin Amrullayev; IUCN Director General Grethel Aguilar; Bryce Coon, Director of Educational Affairs at Earthday.org; and young eco-activist Janina Guevara, representing the Global Education Centre’s #Decarbonize program. They highlighted the role of environmental literacy and shared insights on the discussed topics.
