Neftchi has secured its first signing ahead of the new season.

Axar.az reports, citing the club’s press service, that the Baku-based team has added Rufat Abbasov to its squad from Shamakhi.

The 21-year-old defender has signed a three-year contract with the capital club and will wear the number 3 jersey.

It should be noted that Abbasov is a product of Neftchi, having joined the club’s academy in 2015. He was first promoted to the senior squad during the 2021/22 season, where he made two official appearances.

Over the past two seasons, he represented Shamakhi. Abbasov has also played 17 matches for Azerbaijan’s U-21 national team and has received a call-up to the senior national team.
