For the first time in 17 years, the United States did not join a UN Security Council statement condemning Russia’s military aggression against Georgia in August 2008.

Axar.az reports that the statement, dated August 18, was signed by the United Kingdom, France, Slovenia, Denmark, and Greece.

The declaration condemned Russia’s illegal military presence in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and reaffirmed support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.

So far, Georgia’s Foreign Ministry and other official bodies have not commented on the matter.
