Russia considers Ukraine’s potential NATO membership a threat to its security, but this does not apply to the European Union.

Axar.az informs, citing TASS, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico at a meeting in China.

“As for Ukraine’s EU membership — we have never opposed it. As for NATO, that is a different matter, as it concerns ensuring Russia’s security” the Russian leader said.

Putin also emphasized that allegations of Russia planning an attack on Europe are “complete nonsense” and entirely unfounded.
