Ukraine’s Defence Forces’ strike strategy against Russia consists of three main elements, allowing for a systematic impact on the aggressor’s oil refining industry.
Axar.az reports, Ukrainian military expert Oleksandr Musienko said that recent strikes on Russia demonstrate a systematic approach, as all components of Russia’s petroleum supply chain — including aviation fuel and diesel supplied to Russian forces — as well as elements of Russian oil exports, are coming under attack.
“The Ukrainian strategy of long-range strikes on Russian oil infrastructure is already having a systemic impact on the economy and military capabilities of the Russian Federation. What we saw this week is a demonstrative week, because we see how all components of the Russian fuel supply are under attack,” Musienko said.
He added that Ukraine is striking several key links of the sector, from exports to refining and transportation.
“The damage to the ‘shadow fleet’ vessel ‘Marquis’ is one of the elements. This is a sanctioned shadow fleet vessel that was waiting to load petroleum products. It was hit. This is an important link in generating profit from oil,” he said.
Musienko further explained the three key components of the strategy:
“The second element is an oil refinery and terminal that has been practically destroyed. And the third element is an oil pumping station that ensures the transportation of oil for export and refining. These are links in one chain. We effectively have three most important elements that affect Russia’s export capacity and fuel supply for its army,” he noted.
He added that the strikes are part of a broader strategy and will continue to expand.
“This is working, and it will be scaled up. Strikes are carried out almost daily on various facilities. This causes serious losses for Russia,” he said.
Musienko also stated that Russia is likely to try to conceal the consequences of the attacks.
“Obviously, they will not admit it and will attribute it to technogenic accidents. But by not acknowledging it, they are effectively demonstrating their helplessness — their inability to protect facilities, civilians, and military industry,” he said.
He concluded that Ukraine views these strikes as part of a long-term pressure strategy.
“We will continue to develop long-range strike capabilities, because it works and inflicts real and serious damage on the Russian military economy. This is our offensive air strategy to force Russia into peace,” he said.
