Bashar Assad survives assassination attempt in Russia

Former Syrian President Bashar Assad, who fled the country in December 2024, was poisoned in Russia.

Axar.az reports, citing Albawaba, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights revealed that the ousted Syrian President was subjected to an assassination attempt, involving poisoning his food, in the Russian capital, Moscow.

It was also detailed in a post on the X platform on Wednesday that "Assad left a hospital in the suburbs of Moscow last Monday, and that his health condition is now stable."

The Observatory added, citing a private source, that "the party that carried out the poisoning attempt sought to embarrass the Russian government and accuse it of assassinating him."

Only two people were allowed to visit Bashar Assad during his hospital time: his brother, Maher Assad, and Former Secretary-General for Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam.
