Iran and Russia to sign Rasht–Astara railway agreement

Next month, an agreement on the construction of the Rasht–Astara railway between Iran and Russia will be signed.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh.

According to the minister, this project is of special importance for completing the North–South international transport corridor and strengthening economic relations among regional countries.

Farzaneh Sadegh noted that official visits to Azerbaijan and Pakistan have been carried out over the past two weeks. During the visit to Baku, negotiations on increasing cargo transportation and expanding logistics connections along the Rasht–Astara route have already entered the practical phase.

The minister added:

“Despite sanctions and existing restrictions, the spirit of cooperation has not been broken. The development of highways and railways makes a significant contribution to deepening economic relations with neighboring countries.”
