EU MEPs approve gradual ban on Russian gas imports

MEPs have approved the agreement on the gradual cessation of purchases of Russian gas, agreed with the Council of the European Union.

Axar.az informs that this was reported in Strasbourg by co-rapporteurs Ines Vaydere and Villa Niinistö.

It was noted that 500 people supported the adoption of the agreement at the plenary session, 120 deputies voted against the document, and 36 abstained.

Niinistö said that this decision is stronger than sanctions, because it is about strengthening legislation. Hungary and Slovakia must stop importing gas from Russia by the end of October 2026 at the latest.
