The US Armed Forces have launched a counterterrorism operation against ISIS militants in Syria. The move comes in response to an attack on American troops in Palmyra.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

According to him, the operation dubbed “Hawkeye Strike” is aimed at destroying ISIS fighters, infrastructure facilities, and weapons depots.

“This is not the beginning of a new war; it is a declaration of retribution,” he said.

He also noted that during the operation, US forces have already neutralized a number of militants and intend to continue their actions.

“Today, we tracked down and killed our enemies. We will continue,” the Pentagon chief added.
