Record snowfall buries Moscow

On January 9, Moscow experienced its heaviest snowfall in 50 years.

Axar.az reports that Yevgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Fobos weather center, reported this.

“On January 9, the record of 1976, when 12.9 mm of precipitation was recorded in the metropolis, was broken. This figure was only 1 mm short of reaching the daily record for January, which has been standing since 1970,” Tishkovets said.

According to him, the average thickness of the snow cover in the capital increased by 23 cm:

“Record levels in the Moscow region were recorded in Kolomna, Mozhaisk, and Dolgoprudny, where up to 33 mm of precipitation fell (62% of the January norm).”
