Russia rejects European accusations over Navalny poisoning

Russia has sent a note to the Technical Secretariat of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), rejecting the accusations by five European countries regarding the poisoning of FBK founder Alexei Navalny.

Axar.az informs, citing TASS,“We categorically reject these absurd insinuations against us. At the same time, we noted that Russia is always ready for a substantive expert discussion based on facts,” Russia’s permanent representative to the organization, Vladimir Tarabrin said.

Russia has requested that the Technical Secretariat circulate the note to all countries party to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).

The toxins, including epibatidine—which, according to the statement by the five countries, were found in Navalny’s biological samples—cannot be discussed by the OPCW because they are regulated not by the CWC but by another treaty, the Convention on the Prohibition of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons, Tarabrin added. He also stated that Russia views the statement by the five countries about Navalny as “yet another information attack.”
