Moscow’s support helped preserve Venezuela’s statehood

Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, stated that Moscow’s long-term support has helped preserve Venezuela’s statehood.

Axar.az, citing Russian media, reports that she contrasted Russia’s stance with that of Western countries, saying that without Russia’s backing, Venezuela would have been treated as a “menu item” rather than a legitimate negotiating partner.

The statement comes after the U.S. reportedly carried out a major operation on January 3, bringing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores to New York. The U.S. claims Maduro is involved in “narco-terrorism” and poses a threat to American security.

President Donald Trump declared Maduro no longer the head of state, announcing U.S. management of Venezuela “until political transition is complete.” Russia condemned Washington’s actions.

Currently, Delcy Rodríguez, former vice president, is leading the Bolivarian Republic.
