Putin congratulates Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran's new leader

Russian President, Vladimir Putin, congratulated Mojtaba Khamenei on the occasion of his election as the Supreme Leader of Iran.

Axar.az informs, citing Russian media, the Kremlin Press Service reported in the message, Putin stated that at a time when Iran is facing armed aggression, serving in such a high position will undoubtedly require great courage and dedication.

He expressed confidence that Mojtaba Khamenei would honorably continue his father’s work and unite the Iranian people in the face of serious challenges. Putin also reaffirmed Russia’s unwavering support for Tehran, stressing that Russia has been and will remain a reliable partner of the Islamic Republic.

He wished Khamenei success in addressing the difficult tasks ahead, as well as good health and strength of spirit.

Mojtaba Khamenei is 56 years old and has become the third Supreme Leader of Iran.

Masoud Pezeshkian described his appointment as a step toward strengthening national unity.

His father, Ali Khamenei, ruled Iran for 37 years.

According to the report, Ali Khamenei died at the age of 86 after an Israeli airstrike on his residence in Tehran on February 28.
