All Russian citizens reportedly leave Iran via Azerbaijan

All Russian citizens wishing to leave Iran via Azerbaijan have reportedly departed, Russian Ambassador to Iran Alexey Dedov made the remarks.

Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, foreign nationals needed a special code issued by Azerbaijani authorities to cross the border, which could be obtained in advance through the Russian embassy by submitting passport information, according to Dedov.

The ambassador noted that very few Russian tourists remain in Iran, with most of those still in the country being embassy staff, workers at the Bushehr nuclear plant, and members of mixed Russian-Iranian families.

Earlier in March, 294 Russian citizens were evacuated from Iran via Azerbaijan between February 28 and mid-March.
