India summons Iran's ambassador after Hormuz firing

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has summoned Iranian envoy Mohammad Fathali over an incident in the Strait of Hormuz.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by the official spokesperson of India’s Foreign Ministry, Randhir Jaiswal, during a briefing with journalists.

He said that during the meeting, the ministry expressed deep concern over the reported firing at two commercial vessels flying the Indian flag in the Strait of Hormuz.

"During the meeting, the foreign secretary, Vikram Misri, conveyed India's concerns and noted the importance that India attached to the safety of merchant shipping and mariners and recalled that Iran had earlier facilitated the safe passage of several ships bound for India," the statement said.

Earlier, two Indian-flagged vessel, Sanmar Herald and Jag Arnav, carrying around 2 million barrels of Iraqi crude, was transiting the Strait of Hormuz when gunshots were reported forcing the ships to reverse their course.
