Iran court sentences 13 activists to prison terms

By order of the East Azerbaijan Province Court of Appeals, 13 Azerbaijani-Turk activists were collectively sentenced to 81 years and five months in prison.

Axar.az informs, citing Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the individuals — Ebrahim Avaz-Zadeh, Hamed Yeganehpour, Yoroush Mehrali Beiglou, Araz Ebrahim-Nejad, Hossein Azadi, Amirhossein Aghaei, Naser Razmjou, Davoud Shiri, Javad Soudbar, Mehrdad Ghaderi, Ali Babaei, Mohammadreza Movahed, and Morteza Nourmohammadi — were charged with “gathering and collusion against national security” and “membership in illegal groups.”

The activists were arrested at different times in 2024 and transferred to Tabriz prison. They were later temporarily released pending trial on bail.

Some of them are currently still in detention.
