London hosts King Charles birthday parade

A military parade has been held in London to mark the official birthday of King Charles III of the United Kingdom.

Axar.az reports, citing Sky News, the monarch watched the ceremony from the tribune together with members of the royal family.

More than 1,400 soldiers took part in the parade. King Charles III and other members of the royal family received a 41-gun salute from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

It is noted that the tradition of celebrating the monarch’s official birthday twice in the UK was established in 1748 by King George II, who was born in November but moved the official celebration to summer due to better weather conditions.

Queen Elizabeth II, born on April 21, 1926, also chose June for her official birthday celebrations after her coronation on June 2, 1953. Following his accession to the throne after his mother’s death, King Charles III, born on November 14, 1948, also opted to celebrate his official birthday in summer, choosing June.
