US–Iran deal could be political blow to Netanyahu

Israeli officials are deeply skeptical about the potential finalization of a US–Iran agreement, viewing it as a development that could deal a political blow to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Axar.az reports, citing Axios, that Netanyahu understands the deal is likely to go ahead and that he will not be able to block it.

The report notes that Netanyahu’s critics accuse him of effectively turning Israel into a “vassal state” by accepting US President Donald Trump’s conditions aimed at ending the conflict with Iran. They argue that signing a deal without achieving Israel’s stated objectives would represent a serious strategic and political setback for him.

Israeli officials are avoiding direct public criticism of Trump, but remain concerned about the emerging agreement, including possible provisions that could limit Israel’s freedom of action in Lebanon.

According to Axios, US officials are attempting to reassure their Middle Eastern counterparts, expressing hope that their concerns may ease once the full terms of the agreement become clear.
