Preparations underway to replace Holy Kaaba's Kiswa

Preparations have begun in Makkah to replace the Kiswa, the black silk covering of the Holy Kaaba, ahead of the Islamic New Year 1448 AH.

Axar.az reports, citing Saudi Gazette, a specialized Saudi team of skilled craftsmen started the annual process on Monday night by removing gold-embroidered ornaments, decorative elements, and the Kaaba's door curtain.

The production of the Kiswa relies on premium raw materials, including 825 kilograms of natural silk, 47 rolls of black silk for the outer covering, 400 kilograms of raw cotton for the inner lining, 60 kilograms of pure silver for embroidery, and 120 kilograms of gold-plated silver used in embroidering Qur’anic verses and decorative motifs.

The new Kiswa is scheduled to be installed on Tuesday, the first day of Muharram.
