Switzerland talks to begin with emergency Lebanon session

Negotiations in Switzerland are set to open with an emergency session focused on the escalating situation in Lebanon.

Axar.az reports, citing CNN, the Lebanon issue was added to the agenda and will be the first matter discussed during the meetings.

The session comes as renewed missile exchanges between Israel and Lebanon have raised concerns over further escalation.

Before traveling to Switzerland, US Vice President JD Vance said advancing a ceasefire in Lebanon would be a key priority of the discussions.

Sina Azodi, director of George Washington University’s Middle East studies program, said ending the conflict in Lebanon was the most important issue on Tehran’s agenda.

"For both sides, ending this conflict, this war of choice, rather, is a vested interest,” he said.

Azodi said Tehran hopes the talks will show whether the US has the ability to influence Israel and secure a halt to the fighting.

"They hope that through negotiations with the American side, they can get the US to pressure Israelis to stop for them," he said.
