US, Iran agree to halt strikes ahead of Qatar talks

The United States and Iran have agreed to halt military strikes against each other ahead of talks in Qatar on Tuesday aimed at resolving disputes over the Strait of Hormuz.

Axar.az reports, citing Axios, that a U.S. official said both sides would stand down "for now" and that "vessels can move freely" while technical discussions continue.

"We decided to stop all the kinetic activity," a senior U.S. official told Axios, referring to military strikes and other attacks.

The meeting in Doha will focus on disagreements over implementation of the ceasefire memorandum, particularly provisions governing commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The talks were originally planned to address Iran's nuclear program but were shifted to prioritize maritime security following renewed tensions.
