Fire breaks out near power plant in Russia's Lipetsk

A fire broke out near a combined heat and power plant in the Russian city of Lipetsk during the night of 20-21 July after a missile alert had been issued.

Axar.az reports, citing Ukrainian media, the fire broke out near the city's combined heat and power plant and the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant. It is not yet clear which of the facilities was targeted.

A major fire also broke out in Vsevolozhsk in Leningrad Oblast, although it is reportedly unrelated to the attack. According to Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations, a warehouse and production building caught fire in the Ladoga Industrial Park, where polymer materials are manufactured.

The fire spread across an area of 5,900 sq m. Companies based at the industrial park include Terra-Plast, Mixplast and the Centre for Radiation Technologies.

Background: Russian authorities claimed on the morning of 19-20 July that more than 400 drones had targeted Moscow Oblast overnight. Meanwhile, social media users reported strikes and fires across Moscow Oblast, including at the Koledino logistics centre in Podolsk belonging to Wildberries, Russia's largest online retailer.
