Trump warns Iran over Houthi attacks

U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that the United States will hold Iran responsible for any future attacks by the Houthis, accusing Tehran of backing the Yemeni group.

Axar.az reports that in a post on Truth Social, Trump said the Houthis had resumed attacks by firing at two Saudi Arabian ships after what he described as a period of restraint.

"A year ago, the United States of America attacked, very powerfully, the Houthis for their interference with commerce and trade, by shooting at ships," Trump said, adding that the group had acted "very responsibly" since then, including during the U.S. conflict with Iran.

Warning against further attacks, Trump noted, "If they do this again, the U.S. will hold Iran responsible, in that the Houthis are a surrogate and/or proxy of Iran."

He added that "major military punishment will be inflicted upon Iran and, of course, the Houthis themselves" if such attacks are repeated.

It should be noted that earlier today, two Saudi Arabian oil tankers came under a Houthi missile attack near the coast of Yemen.
