Moldova will not allow Russia to circumvent Western sanctions through its banking system.

Axar.az reports the statement came from Moldovan President Maia Sandu.

"I know there is a lot of discussion about sanctions," he said. "There is no risk that Russia will evade sanctions through the Moldovan banking system: we will not allow the re-export of Russian goods through Moldova," Sandu said.

The Moldovan president also touched upon the issue of gas imports from Russia:

"Another aspect of economic relations with Russia is the purchase of gas. We have only one supplier, so we cannot refuse to buy gas from Russia. We are not the only country in this situation. "
