The Secretary General of Amnesty International, Agnes Callamard, has called for resistance against world leaders she accused of pursuing dominance through destruction, repression, and violence.
Axar.az reports, citing Amnesty International’s Annual Rеport 2025/26, Callamard pointed to U.S. President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Russian President Vladimir Putin as examples of leaders who, she said, seek large-scale political and economic dominance.
She stated that world leaders are violating international law, attacking the International Criminal Court, and weakening United Nations institutions, replacing peace and security mechanisms with alternative systems of their own design.
“Diplomacy does not prevail, war dominates: Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza continues despite a so-called ceasefire; Russia’s crimes against humanity in Ukraine are escalating; the United States is carrying out extrajudicial killings far beyond its territory, launching illegal attacks on Venezuela and Iran, and threatening to seize Greenland. Crimes in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, and Sudan remain unchecked, and the Middle East has once again descended into chaos,” Callamard said.
Callamard also noted that too few countries have stood up to such actions and called on politicians, diplomats, activists, and others to resist at what she described as a critical moment.
“History is not merely something imposed upon us; it is ours to make. And for the sake of humanity, the time to make history is now,” she said.
