Latvia summons Russian envoy over Lavrov claims

Latvia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned Russia’s chargé d’affaires over comments made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Axar.az informs, citing Delfi, the move came after Lavrov claimed that Latvian airspace had been used for drone attacks on Russian territory—allegations strongly rejected by Riga.

The ministry stressed that Latvia, along with other Baltic states, does not allow its territory or airspace to be used for such activities, noting that this position has already been communicated to Russian diplomats.

Latvia also protested the removal of memorial plaques for victims of political repression in Russia’s Tomsk region and has requested explanations from Moscow.

It should be noted that Lavrov alleged Latvia had permitted the use of its airspace for drone attacks in northern Russia, while reports also said memorials honoring victims of Stalin-era repressions, including the “Stone of Sorrow” and plaques dedicated to repressed Baltic and other groups, were dismantled in Tomsk.
