Iran denies Trump claim over death sentences for women

Iran’s judiciary has denied U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that eight women have been sentenced to death in the country.

Axar.az reports, citing Mehr News Agency, the judiciary said Trump relied on what it described as false reports from hostile media outlets.

Authorities stated that no final or enforceable death sentences have been issued against the individuals in question.

They added that some of the individuals have been released, while others are facing charges that, if confirmed, would result in prison sentences rather than capital punishment.

The judiciary further noted that previous media claims about one of the individuals being missing during past protests were later removed by the same outlets that had published them.

The clarification comes after Donald Trump called on Iran to release eight women he said had been sentenced to death.
