Tehran officially declines participation in peace talks

Iran’s delegation will not participate in the planned talks with the United States scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, in Islamabad.

Axar.az reports, citing Tasnim, Iranian officials conveyed the decision to the U.S. side through Pakistani intermediaries.

The report states that the decision is final and that Iran currently sees no prospect of attending future rounds of negotiations.

Tasnim reported that, despite previous diplomatic efforts involving Pakistan as a mediator and a proposed framework for a ceasefire and subsequent talks, Tehran said recent developments had undermined the process.

According to the report, Iranian officials argue that the U.S. side failed to uphold earlier understandings reached through mediation, including conditions linked to a broader ceasefire framework, which led to repeated setbacks in the negotiation process.

The report adds that Iran ultimately concluded that participation in the Islamabad talks would be “a waste of time” under the current conditions, and therefore decided not to attend.
