“The ministers stressed that Europe has a strategic interest in a stable and secure South Caucasus. Progress in the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process is a real opportunity for the region and significantly increases the support of the European Union (EU),” said Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy at a press conference after the Foreign Affairs Council meeting.
Axar.az reports, Kallas said that the ministers agreed to establish a new EU civilian mission for Armenia.
According to Kallas, this will strengthen the countries’ resilience against massive disinformation campaigns and cyberattacks.
“Armenians should choose their own future when they go to the elections in June. We also look forward to Yerevan hosting the first joint summit in May, which will be a testament to our deepening partnership,” the diplomat added.
Kallas noted that Azerbaijan also remains an important partner in the field of energy and connectivity.
“We want to deepen our relations and will soon resume negotiations on a new bilateral cooperation agreement,” Kallas said.
Kallas also commented on relations with Georgia.
"Georgia shows no signs of reversing its democratic decline. The clear message from the ministers was that Georgia must change course. Of course, genuine participation in the human rights dialogue would be an indication that they are willing to change course," the diplomat said.
