The production of hand-woven carpets in Iran has decreased sharply.
Axar.az reports that Abdullah Bahrami, head of the Iranian Hand Woven Carpet Manufacturers Union, informed about this.
He said that in the last 10 years, the export of woven carpets decreased to 50 million dollars from the annual value of 500 million dollars.
"Even with the imposition of sanctions, annual carpet exports used to exceed $1 billion a year. In addition to the failure of the Central Bank to allocate sufficient credit, the wrong policy of the authorities, and the decrease in the number of people engaged in this business also played a significant role in the bankruptcy of this field. Carpet weavers have no insurance and job security, so they were forced to leave this business," Bahrami said.
