Who will be the leader of Hamas after Haniyeh?

The Hamas movement is considering two candidates for the position of head of the Political Bureau to replace Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in Tehran.

Axar.az reports that the head of the Hamas Political Bureau may be Khalid Mashal or Khalil al-Haydan.

According to reports, Hamas held urgent consultations immediately after the death of Ismail Haniyeh. Representatives of the Political Bureau and the Council, a closed advisory body of the movement, took part in the negotiations.

One of the candidates for this position is Khalid Mashal, who has been among the leaders of Hamas since its inception. He headed the political bureau of the movement in 1996-2017, and after the death of Sheikh Ahmad Yasin in 2004, he was appointed the head of the movement.

The second candidate is Khalil al-Haydan, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council. Since 2017, he has worked as the deputy head of the regional political bureau of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
