Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill spoke about the possible application of the death penalty in Russia.

Axar.az reports that citing foreign media.

"The death penalty has existed throughout human history, and Jesus Christ did not condemn it, although he himself was a victim of it. Killing a person as a punishment for a crime is a last resort, but the holy texts allow it," the patriarch said.

It should be noted that formally, the death penalty has not been abolished in Russia. An indefinite moratorium against it has been in force in the country since 1997.
