Migrants are one of the reasons for the appreciation of the dollar. Millions of migrants in Russia take their earnings out of our economy and send them to their homeland. Complete statistics of these transfers have not been reported for several years now, but according to leaked information, these are large sums.
Axar.az reports that the deputy of the Russian State Duma, Mikhail Matveyev, wrote these words on his social network account.
"Data varies, but it appears that half of Tajikistan's GDP ($5.7 billion transferred in 2023), 1/3 of Kyrgyzstan's GDP, 12-15% of Uzbekistan's GDP are transfers from Russia, etc. There are also large transfers to Georgia (over $2 billion), Armenia (over $3 billion), and Kazakhstan.
That is, migrants in Russia and their diasporas receive tens of billions of dollars from our banks every year, artificially stimulating the demand for foreign currency and the increase of the exchange rate. Let's add to this: all "friendly" CIS countries imposed sanctions against Russian banks and MIR cards. Now it is difficult to transfer rubles from Russia to these countries. Therefore, migrants buy currency in cash and take it out of the country," he said.
