The Georgian government has promised to amend the "Foreign Agents Law," which sparked waves of protest in the country.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alen Berse, at a press conference in Tbilisi.

"The government has committed to amending the content of the 'Transparency of Foreign Influences' Act. To this end, a working group will be created with the participation of representatives from Georgia, the Council of Europe, and the Venice Commission," he said.

He noted that, as outlined in the European Convention on Human Rights and as indicated by the Venice Commission, the legislation should be fully aligned with European standards:

"Similar processes could be carried out in other areas such as equality, prevention of discrimination, electoral reforms, prison and probation reforms."
