A dispute over the implementation of the ceasefire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas has been resolved, paving the way for the release of six hostages this week. Civilian Arbel Yehud and soldier Agam Berger will be among three hostages freed on Thursday, followed by three more on Saturday.
Axar.az, citing Times of Israel, reports that the 42-day ceasefire, which began on January 19, had been delayed due to disagreements regarding the release schedule and the classification of hostages. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), holding Yehud, initially misclassified her as a soldier, demanding additional prisoner exchanges. This was resolved, and Hamas confirmed Yehud's safety.
In exchange for the hostages, Israel will release Palestinian prisoners, including 30 for each civilian and 50 for Berger. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that violations of the agreement would not be tolerated.
Additionally, Israel will allow displaced Gazans to return to northern Gaza via the Netzarim Corridor starting Monday morning. Strict security warnings were issued to ensure safe passage.
As part of the broader ceasefire and humanitarian efforts, Hamas has released 105 hostages since late 2023, while 87 remain captive, including 34 confirmed deceased. International mediators, including Qatar and the U.S., praised the agreement as a step forward in addressing the humanitarian crisis.
