Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei received a visiting delegation from the Islamic Jihad radical Palestinian group on Tuesday.
Axar.az reports that according to a post on the organization’s Telegram channel, Khamenei stressed at their meeting that US President Donald Trump’s plans to potentially relocate residents from the Gaza Strip can not be taken seriously. "Such plans will lead nowhere," the Iranian supreme leader was quoted as saying. "Today, global public opinion is on Palestine’s side." "In this case, the plan can not be implemented without the consent of the resistance forces and the people of Gaza," he emphasized.
US President Donald Trump said after his talks with visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on February 4 that Washington was considering taking over the Gaza Strip long-term to keep peace in the Middle East. Thus, he proposed resettling Palestinians from the enclave to other countries in the region, which he said could "pay the price."
Arab countries, Iran, and several Western states have opposed this idea, while Egypt and Jordan said that they were considering an alternative plan for Gaza’s reconstruction without resettling Gazans.
