It is too early to talk about the outcomes of the Russia-U.S. talks in Saudi Arabia.
Axar.az reports that this was stated by Valentina Matviyenko, the chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia.
"It is premature to talk about any results. The very fact that after three years of no communication, a substantive conversation between the leaders of our countries took place, and it was prolonged and meaningful, already says a lot—this is not just negotiations; actions have started, and they didn’t drag it out," she added.
According to her, both Russia and the U.S. "understand the importance of cooperation between the two countries in solving global geopolitical problems, and no one can dispute that. The start of negotiations is a very good, positive signal."
"There will be a separate negotiating group for the conflict in Ukraine. There is a tough, difficult, and complex task ahead to clarify the positions and approaches of both countries, and then find acceptable solutions to various issues. The U.S. is interested in restoring bilateral relations, and we are interested in building long-term, reliable, mutually beneficial, and respectful relations with the U.S. Not short-term, but this should be a long-term, serious strategy for improving our bilateral relations. We have lost a lot over the last three years," said Matviyenko.
