"The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in its current form may cease to function due to disagreements between the United States and its European members over support for Ukraine."
Axar.az reports citing The Daily Telegraph, as saying by former Supreme Allied Commander Europe Admiral James Stavridis.
"We may be witnessing the end of NATO and the beginning of what could be called the European Treaty Organization," he said.
Stavridis noted that US President Donald Trump has made it clear that his country does not want to continue military assistance to Kyiv, which has become an epic geopolitical mistake: "Now the green light is on for Europe, and they will have to step up and continue with it."
He believes that the US's behavior towards Ukraine, as well as Washington's pressure on its European allies to increase defense spending, strikes at the heart of the alliance and raises the issue of mutual trust within NATO.
