Russia has massed significant forces near the Donetsk region and is preparing for a large-scale offensive.

Axar.az informs that this was stated in a report by the US Institute for the Study of War:

“Russian forces are expanding their offensive northeast of Lima to capture Borovoy and Lima in the coming months. The Russian command is using “human wave” tactics to push Ukrainian forces from the left bank of the Zherebets River. However, the lack of mechanized attacks indicates problems with equipment.”

According to the information, Russian troops have advanced northwest from Novolyubovka, and this settlement has probably been captured. Advances have also been recorded southeast of the settlement of Novoye.

The institute’s analysts, citing Ukrainian sources, report that Russian troops have advanced south of Katerynovka. Especially since the beginning of the year, the Russians have expanded their infantry attacks here and rarely use equipment.

According to the report, the current ratio of forces on the front lines is 10:1 in favor of Russia. The main wave of the offensive is being carried out by the 144th and 3rd motorized rifle divisions.

Analysts believe that Russia can use the bridgehead northeast of Lima to capture the remaining part of the Luhansk region under Ukrainian control. Moscow needs this to strengthen its position in possible negotiations.
