Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reveals assassination attempt.
Axar.az – Turkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has disclosed that he was the target of an assassination attempt involving poisoning. The statement was made during an interview with Turkiye’s “24 TV” channel.
“An assassination attempt was made on me. I was poisoned and received treatment,” Fidan said. “We are constantly facing such attempts. This is part of our struggle.”
According to the minister, medical tests confirmed the presence of high levels of arsenic and mercury. He emphasized that such threats would not deter him from his duties: “These things cannot divert us from our path. After all, we exist to serve our homeland.”
Fidan also referenced similar threats faced by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, adding, “As someone following in his path, we knew from the start that we would face all this. That’s the nature of this work.”
When asked if he knew who was behind the attempt, the foreign minister responded, “Let’s not go into those details—these are matters that happen externally. The enemy is not only inside; they are everywhere.”
The reported attempt occurred during Fidan’s tenure as head of Turkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MİT). No further details have been officially released.
