Israel's Dror-1 communications satellite was launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida, USA, on July 13.
Axar.az reports, citing the local "Channel 12", that the satellite was launched by Elon Musk's "SpaceX" company using a Falcon 9 rocket.
According to the channel, the cost of the project is about $ 200 million.
The "Aviation Industry" concern ("Taasia Avirit") announced that for the first time in history, Israel will have its own national communications satellite instead of receiving services from commercial satellite companies. "Dror-1" is expected to meet satellite communications needs for about 15 years, primarily for the needs of the defense system. For example, during the military campaign against Iran, the Israeli Army used manned and unmanned aerial vehicles at a distance of about 2,000 km from the country's territory. All communications, including the operation of communication networks (fighters and refueling stations) and high-precision weapons, require satellite communication.
The satellite weighs 4.5 tons and has a wingspan of 18 meters. It will be placed in a fixed position at an altitude of 36 thousand km, which will allow for direct communication.
