In 2024, the European Union spent more money on buying Russian gas than on aid to Ukraine.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by the EU Commissioner for Energy, Dan Jorgensen.

Jorgensen confirmed the European Commission's goal to completely abandon Russian gas by 2027.

He also noted the importance of developing alternative, renewable, and nuclear energy to avoid new dependence.
