Iran signals willingness to shut down nuclear program

Iran has signaled a willingness to suspend or shut down its nuclear program to prevent a potential military conflict with the United States, according to The New York Times.

Axar.az, citing JP, reports that the move comes amid back-channel talks mediated by envoys from Turkiye, Egypt, Oman, and Iraq, ahead of a scheduled US-Iran meeting on Friday.

The offer follows Washington’s threats of military action, with President Donald Trump deploying an “armada” toward the region. Iranian officials maintain that their nuclear program is for energy purposes, not weapons, and have reiterated openness to diplomacy. Discussions also involve the possibility of shipping enriched uranium to Russia under arrangements reminiscent of the 2015 nuclear deal.

Regional leaders, including the UAE, have called for a negotiated settlement, emphasizing that the Middle East does not need another confrontation.
