Zelensky describes peace negotiations as 'difficult'

US-mediated peace talks between Ukraine and Russia in Geneva ended after just two hours on Wednesday, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky describing the negotiations as “difficult” and accusing Moscow of deliberately stalling progress toward ending the four-year war, Reuters reported.

Axar.az reports that Zelensky acknowledged that some progress had been made but said the two sides remain far apart.

He also criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for publicly pressuring Ukraine to make concessions, calling it unfair that similar pressure was not directed at Russia.

Ukraine has rejected any proposal that would require it to give up territory not currently occupied by Russian forces, particularly in the Donbas region. Kyiv is also pushing for stronger involvement from European allies such as France, Germany, and the UK in the negotiation process.

Russia’s chief negotiator, Vladimir Medinsky, said further talks would take place soon, though no date was given. A Russian source described the discussions as “very tense.” The negotiations come just days before the fourth anniversary of Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
