"Azerbaijan protects the rights of every citizen"

"The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a fundamental document for all of us and reserves it importance at present," UN resident coordinator in Azerbaijan Ghulam Isaczai said.

Axar.az reports that he spoke at the event dedicated to the International Human Rights Day and the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Isaczai noted that these principles urge us to learn and protect our rights and the rights of other people.

According to the Commissioner for human rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova, Azerbaijan protects the rights of every citizen.

"Azerbaijan has been committed to these democratic values since the time of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. Thus, equal rights were granted to both men and women in the country. For example, today, Azerbaijan has joined the Convention on cultural diversity, which also creates opportunities for its citizens," she said.

The exhibition on fundamental human rights was also organized within the framework of the event.
