Zangezur confronted Iran and Russia - Turkish media

The issue of the Zangezur Corridor has brought Iran and Russia into conflict.

Axar.az reports that Turkish media wrote about this.

It was reported that Iran is against the opening of the Zangezur Corridor:

"Official Tehran thinks that with the opening of the Zangezur Corridor, the influence of Turkiye and Azerbaijan in the region will become stronger. Iran perceives this as a threat. Iran is worried that this will increase the sense of national identity in the region, especially in South Azerbaijan. Another issue is related to the decline of Iran's regional geopolitical influence. Also, the Iranian factor will not be as effective as it is now in the relationship between Turkiye and the Turkic states in Central Asia. The next point is the limitation of control capabilities of Iran on the border with Armenia.

It was noted that all this affects Iran's position regarding the Zangezur Corridor: "Iran is taking steps that will contribute to the strengthening of diplomatic relations with Armenia. An example of this is Iran's plan to open a consulate in the Gafan region of Armenia and Armenia to open a consulate in Tabriz."

It was also noted that Russia is interested in opening the Zangezur Corridor: "Kremlin's priority is to control relations between Armenia and the West. The military relations established by Yerevan recently with Europe, led by France, show that this state has come out of Russia's influence."

It is claimed that what happened may affect Iran-Russia relations.
