Russia has confirmed, through Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk and Secretary of the Security Council Shoigu, that it is against the extraterritorial corridor in Zangezur.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Armenian political analyst Suren Surenyants.

"Despite this, the myth continues to spread in Yerevan that Moscow is the one demanding the corridor. In fact, Pashinyan is in a deadlock: on one hand, Yerevan declares it will not withdraw its signature from the trilateral statement of 2020; on the other hand, there is talk about transferring control over the security of future communications to private companies. This is illogical and could lead to new escalation. Geopolitical centers have now entered a real competition to control the route passing through the south of Armenia, and these centers are not genuinely interested in any peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku. After Armenia’s defeat in the 44-day war, the loss of full control over the 42-kilometer communication route via Zangezur has complicated the situation for Armenia. The responsibility for this primarily falls on Prime Minister Pashinyan. After signing the trilateral statement on November 9/10, 2020, Pashinyan promised the Americans control over the communication route. Incidentally, Iran’s concerns are also related to this," he said.

The political analyst considers these maneuvers illogical, warning that they could ultimately lead to new escalation:

"Pashinyan is pursuing a policy of clashing the interests of geopolitical centers, which could explode in Zangezur. The time has come when all these power centers have come to collect on Pashinyan's promises. The Prime Minister does not disclose what the Americans and Russians promised him. As a result, the Armenian public does not know what Pashinyan has sacrificed in Karabakh and on the Gorus-Kapan road in Zangezur. Only Azerbaijan and Turkiye are demanding an extraterritorial corridor from Armenia. No geopolitical center has made such a demand. However, given the high probability of the Turkiye-Azerbaijan plan being realized, each of these centers wants to control this route."
