House Republicans have unveiled a three-month stopgap spending bill to prevent a U.S. government shutdown as the Sept. 30 deadline approaches.
Axar.az reports that this new bill will fund the government until Dec. 20, allowing further negotiations after the November 5 election. The proposal includes funding for FEMA and the Secret Service, contingent on cooperation with a task force investigating assassination attempts against former President Trump.
The bill aims for bipartisan support, as some Republicans are expected to vote against it. Speaker Mike Johnson, who had initially proposed a six-month stopgap, emphasized that this is a narrow, essential spending measure. With the Senate threatening to act first, Johnson had little choice but to push forward with a more pragmatic plan to avoid a shutdown.
