On October 9, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Axar.az reports that John Podesta expressed his gratitude to the head of state for the reception and stated that he had very effective and productive discussions with his Azerbaijani colleagues regarding COP29. The guest emphasized his pleasure in exchanging views with the President of Azerbaijan about COP29. John Podesta noted that despite the limited time for preparation, the Azerbaijani delegation demonstrated high professionalism in their role as COP chair. He highlighted the importance of adopting significant decisions regarding the upcoming COP, particularly on the Two-Year Transparency Repоrts and other issues, especially concerning the new quantitative financial targets.

President Ilham Aliyev expressed his satisfaction with John Podesta's efforts to establish good relations with the Azerbaijani side. Touching upon the importance of COP29, the head of state expressed hope that the event would yield positive results. President Aliyev stated that despite having less than a year to prepare for the conference, Azerbaijan has made significant efforts to organize it at a high level and achieve consensus among participating countries. Emphasizing that the Azerbaijani side is working to build bridges between countries as the chair, the president expressed confidence that Azerbaijan's membership in various organizations and close relations with different states would contribute to the consensus-building process at COP29.

During the conversation, it was emphasized that there is good cooperation between the COP delegations of Azerbaijan and the U.S. The importance of the COP pre-event held in Baku was noted, as well as the significance of the discussions in determining the agenda for the upcoming COP event.

John Podesta highlighted the U.S.'s support for the regional peace agenda.

President Ilham Aliyev stated that Azerbaijan is the initiator of the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, along with the five fundamental principles that form its basis, following the 44-day Patriotic War. He noted that our country supports the regional peace agenda.

Issues related to the bilateral agenda between Azerbaijan and the U.S. were also discussed during the meeting.
