In Azerbaijan's multi-vector foreign policy, the development of relations with countries around the world plays a crucial role. The contributions made by our country to the newly forming economic-political and trade relations system, as well as the important initiatives it has proposed, are highly valued in the international arena. As a result, this increases the positive interest in our country. One of the main points here is Azerbaijan's promotion of equal cooperation in the international relations system.
Axar.az reports that this was stated by deputy Samir Valiyev.
He emphasized that Azerbaijan is actively establishing economic and trade relations with most regions of the world. The official visit of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to our country is significant in this regard:
"Somalia, located in the eastern part of the African continent, is a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement. This country has important cooperation relations with Azerbaijan, based on mutual respect, support, and solidarity within the frameworks of the OIC and the Non-Aligned Movement."
According to the parliamentarian, diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Somalia were established on March 22, 2004:
"Over the period since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, particularly in recent years, the increasing contacts between Azerbaijan and Somalia play a useful role in discussing the prospects of cooperation. According to the agreement signed on political consultations between Azerbaijan and Somalia, using such mechanisms is crucial for expanding cooperation. There is considerable potential for the development of cooperation in a number of areas, including agriculture, fisheries, oil and gas industry, green energy, humanitarian efforts, and education. Mutual contacts and exchange of experience in these areas are of particular importance.
During the press statement by the presidents, the head of our state also talked about the prospects of Azerbaijan investing in Somalia. This fact is, of course, very important, as Azerbaijani investment will play a key role in the development of the country. At the same time, the President of Somalia highly praised Azerbaijan’s development model and expressed the intention to implement this experience in his country.
It should also be emphasized that, as a member of the OIC Contact Group on the territories of Azerbaijan previously occupied by Armenia, Somalia has always been one of the countries supporting Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. Additionally, Somali-Turkiye relations are developing in a way that aligns with Azerbaijan’s interests, as Turkiye is a strategic partner for Azerbaijan and plays a significant role in its cooperation with Africa. Somalia is also an economically developing country, and there is great potential for cooperation with Azerbaijan in energy, logistics, agriculture, and humanitarian fields. The agreements signed between the parties will play a significant role in the implementation of the planned projects."
